Amrut Whiskey Tasting at TGH

Truth be told I have always been in love with whiskey and an evening in a mesmerizing ambiance, in good company, lip smacking food and one of the best whiskey to savor is an evening well spent. The Glass House is breathtakingly beautiful, the unique blend of glass and steel make the place look so chic and elegant, the lighting with the beautiful ceiling adds to the magic.

The whiskey tasting event hosted by the pioneers of Amrut Distillery at The Glass House, Bangalore was an event I am glad I could be a part of. I discovered the most beautiful Indian whiskey I had ever laid my hand on. Amrut Single Malt.

Blind Tasting

Blind Tasting

The day unfolded with Mr Ashok Chokalingam , introducing us to a blind tasting of whiskey’s from around the world. Mr. Ashok is a renowned whiskey expert voted whiskey Ambassador for the year 2012, by the Icons of whiskey. Ashok guided us trough the samples of whiskeys explaining how to appreciate your whiskey and walked us trough different ways to understand it right.Discovering the smokiness of oak barrel, the sweetness of caramel, the punch of citrus or the spiciness of anise just by nosing the drink and then by letting our taste buds dance with the glittering golden whiskey.

After the whiskey tasting we moved to the food, the cuisine in TGH is European inspired but with a twist. Let me tell you the chef has done a wonderful job with the oh-so-mouth-watering menu.

Four Seasons Gourmet Indulgence- Good Food and Fine Wine

Four Seasons Wines is one of the most satisfying yet classy wines that I have had the pleasure of having. The colour, the taste and the essence of this drink is what has made me an ardent follower of this beautifully crafted drink. Last weekend Four Seasons launched the curtain raiser for the event ‘Four Season Gourmet Indulgence’ and I was lucky enough to be a part of it. The event took place at the Tower Kitchen, UB City, a beautiful place in the heart of the city.

The event consisted of pairing some of the finest Gourmet with Four Seasons Wines for a three course dinner. The food was carefully prepared for this occasion by the chefs of the partnered outlets; it was a truly mesmerizing gourmet experience. It was quite a treat for the food connoisseurs and at the same time, a challenge for the chefs to prepare their meals in accordance with the wines and they did not disappoint. The way the food blended with the wine was truly mesmerizing.

Sunday Brunch

Sigh! Good food! Its a rush when you order something new from the menu and then wonder, how good will it be, if at all, it’ll be worth the excitement.

I keep contemplating the amalgamation of the recipe as mentioned in the description section of the menu. Imaging in the back of my mind, the probable outcome how ingredients combine to deliver a sweet, salty, dreamy or heavenly treat to my taste buds. My brain just won’t stop!

Food!

Then, there are those places which never disappoint!. I am a fan this place called ‘Truffles (Ice & Spice)’ in Kormangala, Bangalore. Bangalore residents would recognize this place as everyone who’s once been here would assert on the same.

I have tried almost everything from the menu and I love them all. My personal favorites are Ceasar Salad, Spicy Chicken wings and of coarse the Ferrero Rocher Cold Coffee.

I was lucky to get a table there last Sunday afternoon, as it’s flooded over the weekends. As a result the service is pretty lame during crunch hours. Also, if you want to catch up with friends, it is advisable not to come over during the weekend. The noise and the hustle-bustle might ruin up a good meal/meet.

I ordered, the Grilled Chicken in Mint and Rosemary Sauce and its was really good. The taste of Rosemary dominated the plate but I liked that! On the side, mashed potatoes, steamed rice, bread and steamed vegetable complimented the chicken. It was filling. A 10/10 from my side to Ice & Spice for the food and maybe a 10/10 for ambiance and service on weekdays when it’s moderately empty.

Make sure you give it a try and the next time you’re there. There’s another Ice & Spice at the MG Road, here.

Lasagne..Lasagna…Whatever!

Wiki defines Lasagna (or lasagne) as a classic Italian pasta casserole dish which consists of alternate layers of pasta, cheese, a sauce, and often other ingredients. What it doesn’t tell you is the divinity you feel when these little ‘chunks’ of heaven smother your tongue with the delightful taste that feel straight from the plates of the Almighty.
You’d join the coherence only after an encounter at The Only Place. That combined with an awesome Whopper Burger made my new year a ‘happy’ one the last time.

The best thing is the unexpected-ness that gets you when you’d try it for the first time. A must-visit while in Bangalore. With this, a search for the perfect ‘lasagne’ sure does end if you ask me. You don’t agree – pay it a visit. If you do – then go again and share the happiness. If you’re a diplomat – Well, you are already making plans for the weekend.

Share the joy – not the plate 😉

Welcome Hotel @ Borivali, Mumbai

Well, we set foot on the Dadar platform after 1 day of train travel. And it took us another two hours to get to Borivali screeching through the Mumbai Traffic. 🙂

After the check-in we were very hungry, mildly speaking. It was already 10:45 PM. At that point, we took a clue as to what was the best eating joint nearby. The guy gave us the name of “Welcome Hotel” 1 km from the point. We took an auto to get there. We encountered many other eating joints on the way to Welcome which were definitely larger but we sped through.

Welcome is a small hotel with a clean look. You would take it for a bar probably from a distant. WE ordered everything simple – Mix Veg, Dal Fry and few Tandoori Rotis. The service was extremely quick on a rather busy Friday Evening. And the food lived up to the expectation. It was simple and delicious; really the thing which two travelers will long for after a day of eating junk. The dinner ended in 10 minutes and with our bloated stomachs, we paid a minuscule 170 bucks for a feast.

I would suggest it to everyone living near Boriwali who is on the lookout of something simple over a weekend. Pretty Cheap and good and Hygienic Food.
